Saturday Early Afternoon Quick Update

The snow/freezing rain/sleet line has shifted slightly north to about Rt. 78 and the NJ Turnpike in Northern NJ. Anyone to the north and west of this line still remains almost all snow.

I will leave forecast accumulations in the 6-12 inch range considering the possibility of a mixture in parts of our area.

Areas that remain all snow will likely be on the top range of the 6-12 inches and the areas that mix will be closer to the bottom range.

I will post below the latest short-range model snowfall output map that falls in line with my current thinking and has been pretty consistent for several runs now.  I think this is an accurate reflection of the current data regarding this storm. Of course, this map will change slightly from run to run but what we want to watch is whether this band continues north or moves back south.

Anyway, regardless, anyone north of about Rt. 78 should expect horrendous travel conditions on Monday as temperatures will only be in the teens to low 20's where it is all snow, and in the mid to upper 20's where it is mixing with freezing rain and sleet.

Also, the latest data is backing up my idea of the potential for a significant snowstorm for the beginning of next week as well, with indications that the snow could start next Sunday morning and go into next Wednesday. I truly believe this could be a very significant storm next week.

Please check back for the latest information later today.
