Saturday, September 3, 2016 - Evening Weather Discussion

Dangerous tropical storm and then dangerous heat...

There is a bit of better news this evening as the models have shifted Hermine a bit further off shore and if that were to hold it would be good news for all of us, but especially for the coast. However, there is still a very real possibility of dangerous conditions with damaging coastal flooding.

One change is that the rain now looks as if it will stay off shore, keeping most of us dry, or almost dry, including coastal sections, with the possible exception of Eastern Long Island where 1-2 inches of rain are still possible. The rest of us will now likely only have the chance of a shower or thunderstorm.

The next big change is that the winds will indeed pick up tomorrow, but it now appears that the strongest winds won't occur until Monday, when 30-60 mph wind gusts will be possible, especially along the coast, and the chances for higher winds than that along the coast are now looking less likely, but still remain possible.

So, some very good news if this holds. Let's hope.

Highs should range mainly from the mid 70's to the low 80's tomorrow and Monday.

Moving beyond this storm, things will start to clear out and warm up Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs reaching the mid 80's to low 90's Tuesday and the low to mid 90's Wednesday.

Thursday through next Saturday then look nice but HOT with just a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm Thursday and Saturday afternoon or evening. Highs will be in the 90's in most inland locations with the possibility of some locations approaching 100.

A cold front should move through late next Saturday, dropping temperatures next Sunday to around 80 with mostly sunny skies.

Monday should be variably cloudy with a chance of a shower or thunderstorm and highs in the low to mid 80's.

Next Tuesday through Thursday then look nice with highs rising from the mid to upper 70's next Tuesday to the low to mid 80's next Thursday.

Next Friday there will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms with highs in the low to mid 70's.

Maybe we can push Hermine even further out to sea?

Unfortunately, though, it will get hot as soon as Hermine departs, so we go from a dangerous Tropical Storm to dangerous heat...

Have a wonderful evening!
