COLD today, and snow on the way…
It will continue to be very cold today with highs ranging from the low to mid 20’s in Northeastern PA to the upper 20’s in Central and Northeastern NJ, NYC, and on Long Island.
Clouds will then increase tonight as a storm system and warm front approach our area. This will cause snow to develop early tomorrow morning between about 1 am and 3 am from west to east across the Allentown and NYC Metropolitan areas, becoming heavy at times between about 4 am and 7 am and then changing to rain from south to north starting at about 8 am in Central NJ, 8-9 am in East Central PA, Northern NJ, NYC, and on Long Island (except remaining freezing rain in East Central PA and Northwestern NJ), in Northeastern PA around 9- 10 am (then remaining freezing rain), then in Southeastern NY State and Fairfield County, CT around 10 am ( but remaining freezing rain until around 1 pm in Orange County, NY), and the freezing rain could hold on until about 2 pm in Northeastern PA.
Total possible snowfall accumulations prior to the changeover to rain and freezing rain:
Coating to an inch or two: Mercer and Central Middlesex Counties and southward in NJ
1-3 inches: NYC and Long Island
2-5 inches: East Central and Northeastern PA, Northern NJ, Southeastern NY State, and Fairfield County, CT, with the lower amounts most likely in Southern Hunterdon, Southern Somerset, and Northern Middlesex Counties and the highest amounts most likely in the higher elevations of East Central and Northeastern PA, Northern NJ, Southeastern NY State and in Northern Fairfield County, CT
Total possible ice accumulations after the changeover:
Up to a tenth of an inch possible: East Central PA and Northwestern NJ
Up to a quarter of an inch possible: Northeastern PA and Western Orange County, N
There will then be a chance of rain showers in the evening. Morning lows will be from the upper teens to low 20’s in Northeastern PA to the upper 20’s along the coast, with temperatures rising through the evening, reaching from the low 40’s in Northeastern PA, Southeastern NY and Northern Fairfield County, CT, to the low to mid 50’s in Central NJ by midnight.
Sunday a strong cold front will then move through our area, bringing rain and very warm temperatures early in the morning with morning high temperatures in the 50’s, with some low 60’s possible in Central NJ, dropping through the day to from the upper 20’s in Northeastern PA to the low 40’s on Eastern Long Island by evening.
Monday through Wednesday then look nice with highs from the mid 20’s to low 30’s Monday, to the mid 30’s to low 40’s Tuesday, and from the mid 30’s in Northeastern PA to the low to mid 40’s in Central NJ Wednesday.
Thursday into next Friday morning we will have a chance of rain or snow as a storm system may develop along the Middle Atlantic Coast. Highs will be in the mid 30’s to low 40’s. Those of you hoping for a White Christmas, this will be your best chance, so cross your fingers that this one happens and that it trends a bit colder.
Christmas Eve and Christmas Day then look nice with highs in the mid 30’s to low 40’s Christmas Eve and the mid 30’s to low 40’s Christmas Day.
Next Monday we will have a chance of rain or snow as a storm system approaches from the west. Highs will be in the mid 30’s to low 40’s.
Next Tuesday through Thursday then look nice with highs in the mid to upper 30’s.
