Nor’easter Thursday could bring a bit of snow to our area and a blizzard further north…

We will have a nice day tomorrow with highs in the mid 30’s to low 40’s.

Thursday things will get very interesting as a disturbance in the Northern Jet Stream will combine with a disturbance in the Southern Jet Stream to form a Nor’easter near the Delmarva Peninsula around mid-day Thursday. This storm will intensify rapidly as it moves northeastward to a position near the Eastern end of Long Island Thursday evening and then to near the New Hampshire Coast late Thursday night. This will cause snow to develop in Northeastern PA, and rain or snow or mixed rain and snow in Northwestern NJ, Orange, Putnam, Northern Rockland, and Northern Westchester Counties in NY, and Northern Fairfield County in CT, and rain in Central and Northeastern NJ, NYC, on Western Long Island and in Southern Fairfield County, CT. The precipitation could change to snow everywhere before ending, except on Eastern Long Island. The best guess for accumulations at the moment would be 1-3 inches in Northeastern PA, Northwestern Orange County, NY, Putnam County, NY, and in Northern Fairfield County, CT, a coating to an inch or two possible in East Central PA, Northwestern NJ, and Southeastern NY State, and a coating to an inch possible in Northeastern NJ, Rockland and Westchester Counties in NY, and in Southern Fairfield County, CT. We will however have to keep a very close eye on this storm.

The precipitation should start between about 7 am and 11 am from west to east across the Allentown and New York City Metropolitan areas, the precipitation may become heavy at times in the afternoon and early evening in New York City, on Long Island and in Fairfield County, CT. Snowfall accumulation is a possibility in East Central and Northeastern PA, Northwestern NJ, Southeastern NY State and in Fairfield County, CT (away from the coast. The most likely area to get accumulating snow would be Northeastern PA, as it may be warm enough to have a hard time accumulating elsewhere. Snowfall accumulation further south and east still remains a possibility depending on how quickly this storm develops, so please check back for updates in the morning. Lows Thursday morning will be in the mid 20’s to low 30’s, with highs in the mid 30’s in East Central and Northeastern PA, Northwestern NJ, and Orange and Putnam Counties in NY, the upper 30’s to low 40’s Northeastern NJ, Rockland and Westchester Counties in NY, and in Fairfield County, CT, the upper 30’s to mid 40’s in Central NJ, the low to mid 40’s in NYC, and the mid to upper 40’s along the NJ Coast and on Long Island.

Further north in New England, this storm is likely to attain blizzard strength, with snowfall amounts of 6 inches possible as far south as Northwestern CT, as far west as about Albany, NY, and then Northeastward through Northwestern CT, the Western half of Massachusetts, through Southeastern New Hampshire, and all of Maine, except coastal areas. Within this larger area, there will be a large area with 1-2 foot snowfall amounts from Western Massachusetts through most of Vermont (except possibly far Northwestern Vermont near Burlington, through most of New Hampshire except far Southeastern NH, and most of Maine away from the coast. Winds could also gust to up to 50 mph in parts of this area with the heavy snow, likely causing blizzard conditions at times.

So, please, if you are in New England, are planning a trip there, or know someone there, tell them to prepare for this storm!

Friday will then be variably cloudy with a chance of a Lake Effect snow shower. Highs will be in the 30’s.New Year’s Eve will then be variably cloudy with a slight chance of a snow shower at night as a weak disturbance passes to our north. Highs will be in the 30’s.

New Year’s Day will then be variably cloudy with a chance of a rain or snow shower at night. Highs will be in the 40’s.

Monday and Next Tuesday we will have a chance of rain as a storm system approaches from the west. Highs will be in the 40’s Monday and the 50’s next Tuesday.

Next Wednesday and Thursday then look nice with highs in the mid 30’s to mid 40’s next Wednesday and the mid 20’s to low 30’s Thursday.

Next Friday we will have increasing cloudiness with a chance of snow developing as a storm system approaches from the west. Highs will be in the mid 20’s to low 30’s.

Next Saturday we will have a chance of snow with highs in the mid 20’s to low 30’s.

Next Sunday and Monday then look nice with highs in the mid 20’s to low 30’s.
