Saturday, October 28, 2017 - Evening Weather Discussion

Heavy rain and strong winds tomorrow…

A strong cold front is approaching from the west at the same time that a tropical disturbance is approaching from the south. This will cause a strong Nor’easter to develop along the Middle Atlantic Coast bringing us heavy rain and strong winds tomorrow. The heaviest of the rain and the strongest winds will occur in the evening. The currently projected track of the storm will bring the center of low pressure right over our area. This will put the heaviest rain across Central PA and Central NY State, just to the west of the track of the center of low pressure, where up to 6 inches of rain could fall. With 2-4 inches throughout most of our area, which could produce some flooding. The worst part of this storm in our area, and this could be a significant problem, will be the potential for high winds to the east of the center of low pressure with wind gusts of 60-80 mph or higher possible on Long Island, in Fairfield County, CT, and possibly into parts of Putnam and Westchester Counties in NY State, with wind gusts of 35 to 60 mph possible for the rest of our area and underneath the track of the center of low pressure. The high winds would likely cause some power outages as tree limbs and trees could be toppled, especially when combined with the potential for heavy rain. There would be a much greater chance for power outages to the east of the center of low pressure which currently looks to set up across Long Island, Fairfield County, CT, and in Putnam and Westchester Counties in NY. Any shift in the track of the center of low pressure would move these areas of heavy rain and strong winds slightly east or west, so check back for the latest update tomorrow morning. Highs tomorrow will be in the 60’s.

Monday the rain will end in the morning, followed by clearing. Highs will be in the low to mid 50’s.

Tuesday will be nice with highs in the upper 40’s to mid 50’s.

Wednesday we will have increasing cloudiness with a chance of a shower in the afternoon or at night as a weak disturbance passes through our area. Highs will be in the upper 40’s and 50’s.

Thursday and Friday will then be variably cloudy with highs in the 60’s Thursday and the mid 60’s to low 70’s Friday.

Next Saturday, we will have increasing cloudiness as a disturbance approaches from the west. Highs will be in the mid 50’s to low 60’s.

Next Sunday we will have a chance of showers as a disturbance passes through our area. Highs will be in the upper 40’s to mid 50’s.

Next Monday will then be nice with highs in the 60’s.

Next Tuesday we will have a chance of a shower as a cold front passes through our area. Highs will be in the low to mid 60’s.

Next Wednesday through Friday will then be nice with highs in the 50’s.

Have a wonderful evening!
