Wednesday, December 19, 2018 - Evening Weather Discussion

Flooding rain/strong wind tomorrow night into Friday morning and then chance of a bit of Christmas Eve/Day snow and a potential New Year's Nor'easter…

Clouds will increase tomorrow morning with rain developing tomorrow afternoon and evening, becoming heavy at times at night as a strong storm system passes through our area. It will also become windy with gusts of up to 65 mph possible. Highs will be in the mid to upper 40’s. 

Friday there will be rain, heavy at times, during the day, then a chance of a shower at night. Some flooding will be likely, with total rainfall amounts of 1-4 inches likely throughout our area, and the possibility of isolated amounts of up to 7 inches. It will also be windy, with gusts of up to 65 mph in the morning, and into the early afternoon on Long island and in Fairfield County, CT. It will be warm, with highs in the mid 50’s to low 60’s.

Below is the latest rainfall estimate for tomorrow night into Friday morning from the short-range American model. Notice the maximum of 7.7 inches projected in the Poconos.

Saturday will be variably cloudy with a chance of a shower in the morning. It will be windy, with gusts of 30-40 mph. Highs will be in the 40’s to low 50’s early in the day, falling throughout the day.

Sunday will then be variably cloudy with highs in the mid 30’s to mid 40’s.

Christmas Eve will be variably cloudy with a chance of a period of light snow or some snow showers in the morning as a weak disturbance passes through our area. There could be some light snowfall accumulations. Highs will be in the mid 30’s to mid 40’s.

Christmas Day evening into next Wednesday morning there will be a chance of some light snow or snow showers as a disturbance passes through our area. Highs will be in the low to mid 30’s Christmas Day and the 30’s next Wednesday.

 Next Thursday will then be variably cloudy with a chance of rain developing at night, possibly starting as snow or sleet in some places as a disturbance approaches our area. Highs will be in the 30’s.

Next Friday there will be a chance of showers as a disturbance passes through our area. Highs will be in the upper 30’s to mid 40’s.

Next Saturday and Sunday will then be nice with highs in the mid 30’s to mid 40’s next Saturday and the low to mid 30’s next Sunday.

New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day there will be a chance of snow as a Nor’easter may develop near the NJ Coast. Highs will be in the upper 20’s to mid 30’s.
