Sunday, March 3, 2019 - Evening Weather Discussion

Significant snow for a large part of our area tonight and then VERY cold…

The precipitation has already started in most of our area and if it hasn’t already, it will shortly.

The dividing line between rain and snow will basically be from far Southeastern PA near Philadelphia, through Central NJ, Southern NYC, and along the south shore of Long Island. South of this line there will be mainly rain, with a trace to an inch or two of snow possible, in the mixture or transition area there will be mainly 2-6 inches of accumulation and this is where the forecast uncertainty is greatest. Any small change in track of the storm will make a big difference in snowfall accumulation amounts. North of this line the forecast is the easiest with a general 6-10 inches of snow likely, with localized amounts of up to 14 inches possible.

The precipitation will then end in the morning between about 2-4 am in Southeastern and East Central PA,  between about 3-4 am in Northeastern PA and Southern NJ, between about 3:30 and 4:30 am in Central and Northern NJ and Orange County, NY, and around 5 am in NYC, the rest of Southeastern NY State and on Western Long Island, around 5 am in Fairfield County, CT, and between 5-6 pm on Eastern Long Island.

Total estimated snowfall amounts are depicted on the map below:

Monday things will clear out in the morning and then it will be variably cloudy through Friday with a chance of a snow shower or flurry Tuesday night and Wednesday as a weak disturbance passes through our area. It will get quite cold with lows dropping below zero in some inland locations Tuesday through Friday mornings, especially Thursday morning when lows could reach as low as the low teens below zero in some inland locations. Highs will range from the mid 20’s to low 30’s in Northeastern PA to the mid to upper 30’s in Central NJ, on Long Island, and in Fairfield County, CT, Monday, the 20’s to low 30’s Tuesday, the mid teens to mid 20’s Wednesday, the 20’s Thursday, and the 30’s Friday.

Friday night into Saturday morning there will be a chance of snow showers as a weak disturbance passes through our area. Highs Saturday will be in the mid 30’s to low 40’s.

Next Sunday, March 10th; clouds will increase with a chance of rain or snow developing at night as a disturbance approaches from the west. Highs will be in the upper 30’s and 40’s.

Next Monday, March 11th, there will be a chance of rain or snow ending in the morning, followed by clearing, as a storm system passes through our area. Highs will be in the mid 40’s to low 50’s.

Next Tuesday, March 12thand next Wednesday, March 13th will then be nice with highs in the 40’s next Tuesday and the mid to upper 40’s next Wednesday.

Next Thursday, March 14th, clouds will increase with chance of rain developing at night as a disturbance approaches from the west. Highs will be in the mid 40’s to mid 50’s.

Next Friday, March 15th, through next Sunday, March 17th, there will be a chance of rain as a couple of disturbances slowly pass through our area. Highs will be in the upper 40’s to mid 40’s next Friday, and the mid 40’s to low 50’s next Saturday and Sunday.

Have a wonderful evening!
