Monday, November 4, 2019 - Morning Weather Discussion

Rain in parts of our area tomorrow and then a fine line between rain/snow likely in parts of our area Thursday night into Friday morning, and watching next Monday night into Tuesday…

So, it was a tornado that touched down in Madison, Morris County, NJ on Halloween night. Click here to read the story…

Today will be mostly sunny with highs in the mid 40’s to mid 50’s.

Tomorrow our area will be sandwiched between a cold front approaching from the west and a disturbance developing near the NJ Coast. This will cause light rain to develop in Central and Northeastern NJ, NYC, in Rockland, Westchester, and Putnam Counties in NY, on Long Island, and in Fairfield County, CT, clearing in the afternoon and evening from southwest to northeast, and then a chance of a shower at night in Northeastern PA. Highs will range from the upper 40’s to mid 50’s in Northeastern PA to the low 60’s in Central NJ.

Wednesday will be nice with highs in the mid 40’s to mid 50’s.

Thursday, a disturbance will develop along an approaching cold front in the Tennessee River Valley. This disturbance will track eastward along the cold front, reaching our area Thursday night, strengthening as it does so. This will cause clouds to increase with a chance of rain developing in East Central PA, Central and Northeastern NJ, NYC, and on Long Island, and a chance of rain or snow developing in Northeastern PA, Northwestern NJ, Southeastern NY State, and in Fairfield County, CT, possibly changing to snow at night, and possibly becoming heavy at times. It will likely be a very fine line between rain and snow, depending on the exact track of the disturbance. Highs will range from the low to mid 40’s in Northeastern PA to the mid 50’s in Central NJ and on Eastern Long Island.

Friday, the rain or snow will end in the morning from west to east across our area. Highs will be in the mid 30’s to mid 40’s.

Below are the latest snowfall maps from the ECMWF (European Model). Notice the fine line that the model predicts between rain/snow in our area, with significant amounts of accumulating snow just to the north of the changeover line. Notice also how the European ensemble mean has much lighter snowfall amounts forecast in our area, with the line further north. With the rain/snow line setting up in or near our area, it is impossible to say who will be getting how much snow at this point, or if this line will set up just our north, with everyone receiving rain here. We will just have to wait and see. Images courtesy ECMWF and WeatherBell Analytics.

Saturday and Sunday will then be nice with highs rising from the mid 30’s to low 40’s Saturday, to the 40’s to low 50’s Sunday.

Next Monday, November 11th, clouds will increase with a chance of rain or snow developing in the afternoon or evening as an approaching disturbance may develop into a Nor’easter off the Middle Atlantic Coast. We will just have to wait and see how far off the coast this disturbance develops. Highs will be in the mid 30’s to mid 40’s.

Next Tuesday, November 12th, there will be a chance of rain or snow ending early in the morning, then it will be variably cloudy with a chance of a snow shower, especially near the coast and on Long Island. Highs will be in the 30’s to low 40’s.

It does seem right now as if this might be a better chance for snow in our area, IF the storm develops close enough to the coast, as is depicted in the latest snowfall map for that time range on the European model posted below. Again, please keep in mind that this is a long way out and this storm may not develop at all, or it may develop further off the coast. This is posted just to give you an idea of the possibilities. Next Wednesday, November 13th, is looking nice with highs in the mid 30’s to low 40’s.

Next Thursday, November 14th, and next Friday, November 15th, are then looking variably cloudy with a chance of a rain or snow shower at night. Highs will be in the upper 30’s to mid 40’s.

Next Saturday, November 16th, is looking variably cloudy with a chance of a rain or snow shower in the morning, then a chance of a rain shower during the day. Highs will be in the 40’s.

Next Sunday, November 16th, is then looking variably cloudy with highs in the mid 40’s to low 50’s.

Have a fantastic day!
