Sunday, December 15, 2019 - Evening Weather Discussion

Snow and freezing rain for a large part of our area tomorrow night and Tuesday…

There will be a chance of a flurry tonight and then tomorrow clouds will increase with light rain, light freezing rain, and light snow developing in Central NJ in the late afternoon and evening, in East Central PA in the evening, in southern portions of Northeastern PA, Northern NJ, NYC, and Long Island at night, with snow developing in northern portions of Northeastern PA, Northern Sussex and Northern Passaic Counties in NJ, in Southeastern NY State, and in Fairfield County, CT. Any snow should quickly change to rain along the NJ Coast and on Long Island, then at night in NYC and East Central NJ, and possibly in Northeastern NJ near NYC.

The rain, freezing rain, and snow will continue Tuesday, with the freezing rain possibly changing to rain in East Central PA, West Central NJ, and portions of Northeastern NJ by late morning, The snow may change to freezing rain in the morning in southern portions of Northeastern PA, the rest of Northern NJ, Southeastern NY State, and Fairfield County, CT. Temperatures may never get above freezing in Northeastern PA, Northwestern NJ, Southeastern NY State, and in Fairfield County, CT, and possibly into some areas of Northeastern NJ away from the Hudson River. The precipitation could change back to snow in the afternoon and evening from northwest to southeast before ending in the evening. Highs will be in the 30’s.

Total possible snowfall accumulation:  

Trace to a half inch:  Coastal NJ

Coating to an inch and a half:  Central NJ, NYC, Long Island

One to three inches:  East Central PA, Northern NJ (excluding Sussex and Northern Passaic Counties), Southern Westchester County, NY

Two to four inches:  Northeastern PA, Sussex and Northern Passaic Counties in NJ, Southeastern NY State (excluding Southern Westchester County, and Fairfield County, CT

Total possible ice accumulations:

Trace to a half of an inch:  East Central PA, southern portions of Northeastern PA, West Central NJ, Northern NJ, Southeastern NY State (especially southern Rockland and Westchester Counties, and in Fairfield County, CT

Wednesday will be variably cloudy with a chance of a snow flurry, snow shower, or snow squall in the late afternoon or evening as some Lake Effect moisture may reach our area. Highs will be in the 30’s.

Thursday through Christmas Day are then looking nice with highs in the mid teens to mid 20’s Thursday, the mid 20’s to mid 30’s Friday, the 30’s Saturday, the mid 30’s to mid 40’s next Sunday, December 22nd, the upper 30’s to mid 40’s next Monday and Christmas Eve, and the mid 30’s to low 40’s next Christmas Day.

Next Thursday, December 26th, will be variably cloudy with a chance of a snow shower as a disturbance passes through our area. Highs will be in the 30’s.

Next Friday, December 27th, and next Saturday, December 28th, are then looking variably cloudy with highs in the 30’s.
