Thursday, January 16, 2020 - Morning Weather Discussion

Chance of snow squalls and windy today and then snow changing to rain Saturday…

There will be a chance of some light rain or sprinkles this morning and then it will be variably cloudy with a chance of a snow squall, snow shower, or snow flurry this afternoon or evening as a cold front passes through and some Lake Effect moisture behind the front could reach our area. There will be a chance of a quick coating to an inch of accumulation in any snow squall, with several inches of total accumulation form snow showers and snow squalls possible in some of the highest elevations of Northeastern PA. It will also be windy, with gusts of up to 50 mph possible today. Highs will be in the mid 30’s to mid 40s.

Tomorrow will be variably cloudy with highs in the mid 20’s to low 30’s.

Saturday, an approaching disturbance will cause snow to develop in the late morning and early afternoon from west to east across our area, gradually changing to rain at night from south to north, except possibly in Putnam and Northeastern Fairfield County, CT. Highs will be at night and will range from the mid 30’s to the mid 40’s.

Total possible snowfall accumulation:

Trace to an inch:  Southern portions of Central NJ and Long Island

One to Two Inches:  Southern portions of Central NJ and New York City

One to three inches:  East Central PA, Northeastern NJ, Southern Westchester County, NY

Two to four inches:  Northeastern PA, Northwestern NJ, the rest of Southeastern NY State, and Fairfield County, CT
