Very heavy snow and strong winds with coastal flooding
tonight into tomorrow morning, lows in the single digits in some inland
locations Saturday Morning, and then a Christmas Eve into Christmas Day storm
is possible…
A strong Nor’easter will develop along the Middle Atlantic
Coast tonight, bringing our area heavy snow and strong winds tonight into
tomorrow morning, with many places from Central NJ northward getting more than
a foot of snow, some locations in far Northwestern NJ and Orange County, NY possibly
getting 2 feet of snow, and some locations in Northeastern PA, possibly getting
close to 3 feet of snow.
There will also be strong winds tonight into tomorrow
morning, with gusts as high as 55 mph possible inland and up to 65 mph possible
along the coast and on Long Island. This could cause significant blowing and drifting
of the snow and coastal flooding. Central NJ will likely have much lower snowfall
accumulations as there will be a mixture of precipitation there, and there
could also be a mix on far Southeastern Long Island.
The precipitation will change to snow everywhere tomorrow
morning and then end in the afternoon form southwest to northeast.
Total possible snowfall accumulation:
1-6 inches: Central NJ Coast from
south to north
2-14 inches: inland Central NJ from
south to north
8-16 inches: Eastern Long Island
10-18 inches: East Central PA, NYC,
and Long Island
12-20 inches: Northeastern NJ
12-24 inches: Northwestern NJ
14-24 inches: Rockland,
Westchester, and Putnam Counties in NY State and Fairfield County, CT
15-30 inches with localized amounts to 35 inches
possible: Northeastern PA and Orange County, NY
The next thing to watch will be the low temperatures
Saturday morning which will reach the single digits in many inland locations.
And then the next thing of interest will be a potential
Christmas Eve into Christmas Day storm that will bring our area the potential
for significant rain or snow.
For a detailed look at the next 2 weeks please check out my
prior post. In addition, I will be updating the snowfall maps in the post
before that throughout the day, so be sure to check back for updates.
